Overview

Stay in a rural farm near Udawalawe and watch the Elephants in their natural habitat while you enjoy many off the beaten track and authentic experiences such as Canoeing, fishing, working in a farm and even cooking with the staff at the farm stay. The farm ground is a very good place for bird watching so at any given time you could see many verities of birds by the lake. In an afternoon we go to Weheragala National Park, which is Yala Block IV to see Leopards. The farm stay is a very authentic experience, away from the mass tourism sites. The farm stay offers no frills, but authentic traditional rural styled accommodation, good food and company of friendly people while you enjoy many authentic experiences it has to offer.

After three nights at the Famr Stay, we then take you Banyan Camp, which is situated bordering Hambegamuwa Lake near Udawalawe National Park in a picture post card type scenic setting. When at the Banyan Camp, just relax, or do bird watching in the garden or even you can venture out for a traditional catamaran ride in Hambegamuwa tank.

This five night's trip to off the grid locations of Sri Lanka provides you a totally different, wild and authentic experiences you will never have anywhere else.

Detailed Itinerary

  • Welcome to SriLanka, meet with our representative

    Your will be warmly received with by our representative at the Arrival Lounge of Colombo International Airport

    • Transfer to Wellawaya – 5 hours drive approximately

    • Lunch at the farm stay

    • Go for a local safari to see Elephants and crocodiles in a surrounding lake of the farm stay.

      • Accommodation

        Dinner and overnight stay at the rural farm stay in Wellawaya

      • The highlight of the farm stay is to go off the beaten or off the grid area for an authentic safari experience away from the mass tourism. Wellawaya is an area where many Elephants call their home. The farm stay is situated in the middle of an Elephant corridor and on many days you would be able to witness the wild Elephants from your room itself when they come to bath in the lake in front of the property. This is a real off the grid and rustic experience and do not expect any luxuries but basic facilities. The experience is very unique. Local safari to see Elephants is a unique experience that only our farm stay can deliver, which is like a private Elephant show.

  • Wake up early morning and do some bird watching in the garden around the lake at farm stay. Nearly 30 bird species can be spotted in the garden of the farm stay.

    • Breakfast at the farm stay

    • Go fishing in traditional Sri Lankan style at the lake or go for a river bath

    • Lunch at the camp

    • Afternoon safari in Weheragala National Park to see Elephants and Leopards (Wheragala is Yala National Park’s Block IV)

      • Go for a bird watching trail early in the morning with one of the staff at the farm stay. This trail takes around the lake in front of the farm stay. In the afternoon we go to Wehergala National Park, which is a part of Yala National Park to possibly see some Leopards and Elephants. Weheragala is still a newly designated are of Yala National Park which way away from the main entrance of Yala, hence the park has very less visitors. Also take part in experiential activities such as fishing in traditional Sri Lankan style and bathing in a river.

  • Wake up early morning and do some bird watching in the garden around the lake at the farm stay. Nearly 30 bird species can be spotted in the garden of the farm stay.

  • Breakfast at the farm stay

  • Learn how to make Curd, a Sri Lankan delicacy made out of cow’s milk

  • Go Canoeing in the lake

  • Enjoy a freshly cooked traditional farm house lunch

  • Relax at the farm stay

  • Pick your choice of vegetables from the farm’s vegetable fields and cook them for your dinner in our farm house kitchen team. A unique experience.

    • Do some bird watching surrounding the farm stay and the lake. Go with the staff to see how a Sri Lankan dairy based delicacy is made, do some canoeing in the lake and even learn to cook a Sri Lankan meal with the staff of the farm stay. This is fun and a unique experience.

  • Lunch at Banyan Camp

  • Go on a walking neighborhood safari to see some birds and local wildlife in the surrounding of Banyan Camp

    • Banyan Camp is a rustic and eco concept lodge situated in a very remote location bordering a scenic lake. At the camp you would be able to see some wild Elephants on a lucky day when they wander in the shore of the lake. Banyan camp is a good choice for bird watching enthusiasts.

  • Relax in the morning by the garden of the camp

  • Enjoy a freshly cooked lunch at the camp

  • In the late afternoon go on a traditional catamaran ride in Hambehamuwa lake to see birds and possibly some Elephants in wandering by the lake shore
